In the early hours of March 29, 2024, a Plano Police Officer on routine patrol made a startling discovery near Legacy Drive and Central Expressway. The officer spotted a stolen vehicle and attempted to pull it over. However, the driver refused to stop, prompting a pursuit that eventually led to Garland after the stolen vehicle sustained damage to its wheels.
As the pursuit reached its conclusion, the occupants of the stolen vehicle fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. During the pursuit, gunshots were heard emanating from the woods. No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire, and officers exercised restraint by not returning fire due to the uncertainty of the shooter's location.
Additional law enforcement agencies, including those from Garland, Richardson, and DPS101 (aircraft), responded to assist in the operation. The DPS101 aircraft successfully located a suspect within the wooded area, who ultimately surrendered to authorities.
Meanwhile, Richardson PD later apprehended a second individual matching the description of a possible passenger involved in the incident. This individual was taken into custody within Richardson's jurisdiction, with potential charges pending from the Plano Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing.
