Man Arrested in Wise County After Assaulting Deputies During Domestic Disturbance Response

In Wise County, an anonymous 911 call was made by a concerned individual reporting possible domestic violence in a nearby home. The caller mentioned threats of violence allegedly made by the husband against his wife.

Two deputies responded to the scene. Upon arrival, the male resident aggressively approached one of the marked patrol units, shouting at the deputy and demanding that he leave the property. The deputies exited their vehicles and attempted to calm the man, but he refused to cooperate.

One deputy tried to physically control the man, but he resisted and began walking back toward his house, ignoring commands from the officers. As the deputies approached him again, the man turned and assaulted them, shoving a lit cigar into one deputy's face and punching the other in the head with a closed fist. The man then reached for a knife in his pocket, escalating the situation.

After a struggle, the man surrendered, reportedly shouting "calf-rope!".  When someone says "calf-rope," they are signaling that they are done fighting or resisting, akin to saying "uncle" in other contexts.

All three individuals involved were treated by Wise County EMS.

The suspect was booked into the Wise County Jail on three charges: Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor), Assault of a Public Servant (Second Degree Felony), and Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant (First Degree Felony). He posted a $38,500 bond and was released 11 hours later.
