American Airlines Expands Summer 2025 Routes with New Flights to Europe and Asia

American Airlines is preparing for expanded trans-Atlantic service in the summer of 2025 with five new European routes. The airline will resume flights to Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI), and add new routes to Athens, Greece (ATH); Madrid, Spain (MAD); Milan, Italy (MXP); and Rome, Italy (FCO). Tickets for these routes will be available starting September 9 through American’s website and mobile app.

From its hub in Philadelphia (PHL), American will connect passengers to 17 trans-Atlantic destinations, including new service to EDI, allowing travelers to explore Scotland’s historic castles and landscapes. The airline will also introduce service from Miami (MIA) to FCO and PHL to MXP, increasing its presence in Italy with six routes to FCO.

American will expand its service to Greece with a new route from Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT), to ATH, providing more access to Greece from the U.S. than any other airline next summer. Additionally, American will launch its first-ever route from Chicago (ORD) to MAD, enhancing connections through its European partners to further destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

In total, American will offer over 70 daily departures to more than 20 trans-Atlantic destinations in 2025. These routes will include the return of flights to Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH); Naples, Italy (NAP); and Nice, France (NCE). Daily service from MIA to Paris (CDG) and three other trans-Atlantic routes will extend into summer.

For Pacific travelers, American will increase capacity on routes to Tokyo and beyond. From Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), daily service will be available to Tokyo Haneda (HND), Tokyo Narita (NRT), and Shanghai (PVG), with all routes operated by larger Boeing aircraft. Additionally, Los Angeles (LAX) will offer twice-daily service to HND.
