The City of Irving announced the completion of the median landscaping project at the intersection of Hunter Ferrell Road and Story Road on November 1, 2024. The redesigned median now features decorative rock, perennials, and lifelike artificial turf. These elements were selected to require minimal maintenance, reducing staff exposure to traffic hazards while providing a visually appealing entryway to the city.
This project is part of Irving's Median Landscape Initiative, launched in 2022 with the redesign of the South MacArthur Road entry median. The initiative aims to beautify major thoroughfares while minimizing labor and maintenance needs in high-speed traffic areas.
The design approach incorporates xeriscape techniques, properly spaced perennials, and artificial turf to ensure durability and low upkeep requirements. City officials anticipate these enhancements will contribute to long-term safety and aesthetic improvements.
