Samuel Glenn (Red) Whaley, 82 passed away December 14, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Whaley was born October 20, 1931 in Dallas, Texas and resided in Forney, Texas since 1968. Mr. Whaley grew up in Irving, TX and at an early age became an Eagle Scout. He was a volunteer fireman in Irving before leaving to serve as a Military Policeman in the Korean War. After returning from Korea, Mr. Whaley rejoined the Irving Fire Department as a full time fireman. He later became one of the first Battalion Chiefs. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Whaley began many businesses and later, after moving to Forney, Mr. Whaley established Forney as the Antique Capital of Texas. He later became a Real Estate Developer in Kaufman County. Because of his love for the city of Forney and his passion for the fire department, the family donated a fire station. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. Mr. Whaley is preceded in death by his parents, Sam & Betty Whaley. Survived by his loving wife, Helen, his children, Richard Whaley and Linda Crowley. Grandchildren Jennnifer Harrell, Glenn Walton and Nicole Whaley. Great grandchildren, Greyson. Sloane, Griffen and Lily and survived by two sisters, Betty King and Linda Ortman, along with numerous bother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews and an abundance of friends.
Funeral service will be 2:00PM Tuesday December 17, 2013 at First Baptist Church Forney 1003 College Ave. Forney, TX. 75126. Family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at New Hope Funeral Home.
