William Jenkins, age 93, formerly of Irving, TX, passed away
on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Primrose Retirement Communities in
Wausau.
Bill was born in Scotland on May 1, 1920 and immigrated to
the United States with his family in 1928.
After graduating from high school in Yonkers, N.Y. in 1937 he attended
the New York State competition for shorthand and typing in Buffalo, N.Y. and
came in second. With these skills he
earned employment with the Boy Scouts of America and during the next nearly 50
years worked his way from office boy to National Director of Merchandizing at
their headquarters in Irving, TX.
Bill served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II
for almost 4 years in the Asian theatre including Okinawa. He married Jean Rasmussen in 1962, preceding
him in death in 1996. He was a longtime
member of Woodhaven Presbyterian Church and participated in numerous volunteer
activities including Boy Scout Museum and hospital volunteering.
Bill is survived by his brother, David C. Jenkins; nephews
Dr. David D. Jenkins (Deanne), Weston, and Robert Jenkins, North Carolina; and
numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Uncle Bill will be laid to rest beside his wife, Jean, the
love of his life, in South Amboy, New Jersey.
