June 20 marks the official start of summer, and Irving is expected to experience high temperatures.  The Irving Police Department has provided some safety tips to stay cool and safe:

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Protect Your Skin: Use sunscreen with a high SPF.
  • Limit Outdoor Activities: Avoid prolonged outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and seek shade when possible.
  • Be Weather Aware: Keep an eye out for severe weather, including thunderstorms, flash floods, heat advisories, and air quality alerts.
  • Water Safety: Supervise swimmers and use life jackets, vests, or floaties.
  • Prevent Bug Bites: Use insect repellents containing DEET.
  • Vehicle Safety: Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, as temperatures inside can rise quickly.
