Weatherford High School Homecoming Dance Evacuated After Threat of Gun

On September 14th at 8:43 pm, Weatherford Police Department (WPD) officers working off-duty security at the Weatherford High School Homecoming Dance responded to an altercation involving a 17-year-old student. The student was reported to have been smoking a THC vape on the dance floor. As a result, two officers intervened, and the student was arrested and removed from the building. The school administrator involved in the incident sustained minor injuries.

At approximately 8:48 pm, officers inside the dance were informed of a potential gun threat. They requested additional patrol assistance and took necessary precautions, including staging EMS nearby. School administrators began evacuating the building as officers conducted searches of the premises, including bathrooms and the baseball fields, in response to further reports of a weapon.

No weapons or evidence of a weapon being used were found, and no shots were reported by any officers. Review of surveillance video by WPD officers and WHS Campus Security did not reveal any weapons.

WPD emphasized that the safety of students was their priority and encouraged parents to discuss the incident with their children. School counselors are available for support. Anyone with additional information about the incident is urged to call 817-598-4310.
