Cleanup and Recovery Underway in Irving after Confirmed Tornado Strike

The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in southern Irving on Tuesday, March 4, causing damage and power outages. City employees and utility crews, including Oncor, are working to restore services to affected areas.

Assistance for Displaced Residents

The temporary shelter previously set up has closed, but those still displaced can seek assistance by contacting the Irving Office of Emergency Management at (972) 721-2100 or via email.

Storm Debris Collection Guidelines

Residents cleaning up debris are asked to follow these guidelines:

  • Separate waste: Keep trash, recycling, brush, and bulky items in separate piles.
  • Ensure accessibility: Place bulky items in areas free of obstructions, such as parked cars and fire hydrants.
  • Contractor responsibility: Private tree-trimming and cleanup services must haul away their own debris.

For questions, residents can contact Solid Waste Services at (972) 721-2232 or visit CityofIrving.org/SWS.

Reporting Property Damage

Homeowners and businesses with storm damage are encouraged to report it through the Texas Department of Emergency Management's online portal. These reports help officials assess the damage and determine eligibility for disaster assistance.

Power Line Safety Reminders

Oncor urges residents to exercise caution around power lines during cleanup:

  • Avoid removing debris near power lines, as it may conceal live wires.
  • Keep children and pets away from downed power lines.
  • Report downed power lines immediately by calling 911.

Residents can stay updated on outages and report issues via the MyOncor App, by texting "REG" to 66267, using the Oncor outage map at Oncor.com, or calling (888) 313-4747.
