Dallas Man Shoots and Kills Wife After Accusing Her of Plotting Against Him, Police Say

John Harris

A man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly shooting and killing his wife inside their apartment, according to an arrest affidavit.

Dallas police responded to a shooting call in the 2600 block of The Mall just after 7 p.m. on March 5. Officers arrived to find 45-year-old Zanthia Harris lying on the floor with gunshot wounds and a pistol nearby. She was transported to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Authorities said Harris had called a friend earlier in the evening, saying her husband was acting irrationally. The friend, who was inside the apartment at the time, called 911 after witnessing the shooting.

The suspect, 50-year-old John Harris, was found outside the apartment waiting for police and surrendered without incident. According to the affidavit, Harris later told investigators he was paranoid and believed his wife was conspiring against him with others.

John Harris was arrested at the scene and booked into the Dallas County Jail on a murder charge.
