Tarrant County Deputies Receive National Recognition for Heroic Warrant Service

Members of the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office Warrants Division were honored with an Honorable Mention at the 32nd Annual TOP COPS Awards ceremony last night in Washington, D.C. The Deputies were recognized for their exceptional bravery and heroic actions during a dangerous warrant service in August 2024.

The team was attempting to serve a warrant on a registered sex offender when the suspect opened fire, critically wounding Deputy Todd Tipton with three gunshots. Despite the immediate threat, the Deputies returned fire, successfully neutralizing the suspect while ensuring the safety of nearby civilians and fellow officers. Their swift and courageous response in the face of deadly danger undoubtedly prevented further casualties.

Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn lauded his deputies, stating, "Our deputies embody the very best of law enforcement – selfless, courageous, and committed to protecting the community. This Award serves as a reminder of the risks they take every day and the extraordinary heroism they display in the line of duty."
