DFW Airport Launches PourAway Program for Sustainable Liquid Disposal

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has introduced the innovative PourAway pilot program, aiming to provide passengers with a quicker and more sustainable option for disposing of prohibited liquids at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints. This initiative not only promotes environmental consciousness but also aims to reduce unnecessary landfill waste.

The PourAway program allows travelers departing from DFW Airport to conveniently access large, designated liquid-disposal containers positioned just outside the security checkpoints at five locations: A10, B9, C1, D22, and E18. Passengers can pour their leftover liquids into the prominent blue containers, subsequently choosing to either deposit their empty bottles into nearby recycling bins or carry them through security for refills within the terminal. This initiative addresses the issue of plastic bottles being needlessly discarded by passengers, as only empty plastic bottles can be effectively recycled or reused.

Ken Buchanan, the Executive Vice President of Customer Experience and Revenue Management at DFW Airport, emphasized the program's sustainable benefits. "Rather than have passengers throw away plastic bottles at the TSA checkpoints, we are creating a way for travelers to make the more sustainable choice to empty their liquids and fill up again in the terminals," he stated. Buchanan added, "This is a win-win-win that addresses security, sustainability, and passenger convenience."

DFW Airport has consistently demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship, being recognized as the first carbon-neutral airport in North America. In line with its sustainability goals, the airport aims to reduce the volume of waste sent to local landfills by 15 percent this year. The introduction of the PourAway program aligns with this objective, as it encourages travelers to adopt eco-friendly practices and actively participate in waste reduction efforts.

The airport's leadership hopes that the PourAway pilot program will not only benefit passengers but also set a precedent for other airports worldwide. By combining security measures with sustainable initiatives, DFW Airport continues to position itself as a leader in the aviation industry's commitment to environmental responsibility.

Passengers departing from DFW Airport can now enjoy a more seamless travel experience while contributing to the preservation of the planet. With the PourAway program in place, passengers have the opportunity to make sustainable choices, reduce waste, and actively support DFW Airport's ongoing efforts to protect the environment.
