On September 14, 2023, Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) initiated a lockdown at its Arlington Heights campus on Thursday following a student's report of a possible sighting of an individual carrying a firearm. Law enforcement officials promptly apprehended a student in connection with the incident, as confirmed by FWISD.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD), the lockdown was initiated at approximately 10 a.m. after a student alerted a campus monitor to the presence of an individual believed to be in possession of a firearm.
FWPD officer Daniel Segura commended the students for their swift response, stating, "We tell them, 'If you see something, say something.'" The safety protocol was followed diligently by the students.
In response to the potential threat, Fort Worth police deployed K-9 units, officers, and district staff members to thoroughly search the campus, including examining the school's roof. Despite their efforts, no firearm was discovered during the sweep.
District spokesperson Cesar Padilla confirmed that a student was taken into custody by authorities, but details regarding the reasons for their detention and their current custody status remain unclear at this time.
