Lewisville Patrol Officer Makes Arrest After Routine Traffic Stop Leads to Drug and Stolen Firearm Discovery

On August 22, 2023, a Lewisville Patrol Officer on duty in the 300 block of Corporate Drive conducted a routine traffic stop due to a traffic violation. During the course of the stop, the officer observed behavior from the driver that raised suspicion.

The officer obtained consent to search the vehicle, based on the driver's behavior. The search uncovered a handgun and approximately 1.5 grams of Methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the handgun had been reported stolen in a previous burglary incident within Lewisville.

The driver, identified as 34-year-old Osiel Antonio Rivas Mendiola Jr., a resident of Lewisville, was taken into custody. Mendiola has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1 and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. He is currently detained on these charges as well as an immigration detainer.

The investigation into the stolen firearm is ongoing.
