Irving Independent School District (ISD) is celebrating its recognition as one of the five outstanding North Texas entities awarded in the 2023 TXU Energy Leadership Award Program. This initiative by TXU Energy highlights both corporate and non-profit leaders that are actively contributing to the cause of energy responsibility.

Irving ISD was honored with the "Leadership in Engagement" award, a testament to their unwavering commitment to environmental protection and sustainable practices.

Dr. Andre Smith, Chief of Administrative Services for Irving ISD, expressed his pride, saying, "This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, who understands the importance of protecting our environment for a more sustainable and greener future."

Irving ISD has gone the extra mile in preparing its 31,000 students for a cleaner energy future. The district is notably home to Texas' first net-zero public school, Lady Bird Johnson Middle School. This groundbreaking institution provides students with a three-dimensional learning space, offering firsthand experiences in energy-efficient design. Lady Bird Johnson Middle School boasts an Energy Star-rated kitchen, geothermal heat pump HVAC technology, solar panels, wind turbines, and a rainwater harvesting system.

TXU Energy, in collaboration with its parent company, Vistra, has also extended its support to Irving ISD by contributing $35,000 in scholarship funds, aiding students in continuing their education.

Gabe Castro, Senior Vice President of Business Markets for TXU Energy, stated, "TXU Energy is proud to recognize this year's winners and their commitment to a clean energy future. From cutting-edge ideas to sustainable solutions, these companies and organizations are showing energy leadership in action. We are honored to be partners on this mission."

The awards were announced in conjunction with the TXU Energy Summit held September 20 in Arlington.
