In the early hours of September 24, 2023, at approximately 12:59 a.m., Temple police officers responded to a disturbance with shots fired in the 500 block of N. 12th St. Upon arrival, officers encountered an adult female who was in possession of a firearm.
The situation escalated when the female suspect pointed her firearm at the responding officers. In response, one officer discharged their firearm, striking the suspect.
Immediate medical assistance was provided to the injured suspect on the scene by Temple Police Officers, Temple Fire and Rescue, and Emergency Medical Services. Subsequently, the suspect was transported to Baylor Scott and White Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
The deceased suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Tiffany McCoy of Killeen.
The Temple Police Department called in the Texas Rangers to investigate an officer involved shooting resulting in the death of the suspect.
As a matter of standard practice, the officer involved in this incident has been placed on administrative leave with pay. An internal affairs investigation of the incident has been ordered, as well. This case is under investigation.
