Governor Greg Abbott announced today that the Texas Music Office (TMO) will collaborate with the City of Corinth and the Corinth Economic Development Corporation to host a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop. This event will take place on Monday, November 6, and will be available both virtually and in-person.
In a statement, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of music to the Texas brand and local economies. He expressed gratitude to the Texas Music Office for its role in helping communities of all sizes form creative partnerships and create new job opportunities. The Texas music industry, with support from the TMO, contributed to over 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generated more than $26 billion in economic activity across the state last year. The Governor stressed the significance of working alongside local leaders, like those in the City of Corinth, to ensure that more Texas communities have the resources needed for success.
During the workshop, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist Chip Adams will provide insights into the Music Friendly Texas Community designation and the advantages of becoming certified. He will also be available to address any questions from the participants.
The Music Friendly Texas program, introduced by TMO in 2016 and the first of its kind in the nation, offers Texas communities a platform to foster the development of the music industry. This program also conveys a clear message to music industry professionals that certified communities are committed to attracting and nurturing music industry growth. The workshop in Corinth marks the initial step in the certification process for the city. Once completed, Corinth will join the ranks of 50 other Texas cities that have earned the Music Friendly Texas designation.
Musicians, venues, and the general public are encouraged to participate in the workshop, either in-person or online.
