Increase in Robberies Linked to Facebook Marketplace Prompts Safety Reminder from Irving Police

Recent reports nationwide indicate a rise in robberies related to transactions on Facebook Marketplace. In response to these incidents, the Irving Police Department is urging caution and promoting the use of their Exchange Zone for safer meet-ups.

The Exchange Zone, situated at the South Police Station on 305 N. O'Connor Rd., provides a monitored environment for exchanging goods and money. Equipped with surveillance cameras and close to police oversight, it aims to reduce the risk of theft during transactions.

To enhance personal safety:

  • Always meet in public, preferably during daylight hours.
  • Consider using the buddy system when meeting unfamiliar buyers or sellers.
  • Verify the legitimacy of the other party by checking their profile and reviews.
  • Keep records by taking screenshots of profiles and conversations.
