Fort Worth Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Portales Avenue, west side, just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3rd. The sole occupant escaped prior to the arrival of fire units. Quint 23 encountered heavy smoke at the one-story home and initiated an interior attack with the first hose line. A second hose line was deployed to protect neighboring houses as flames consumed the attic. Firefighters inside the residence dismantled ceilings to access and extinguish the fire, while simultaneously searching for several dogs trapped inside.
Rescue efforts resulted in the recovery of three dogs, subsequently handed over to a MedStar crew for emergency care. Despite efforts, one dog succumbed to the incident, while two others survived. The blaze was successfully contained within approximately 20 minutes, with participation from nine firefighting units.
