On August 7, 2024, at approximately 8:48 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of 38th Street and Atkinson Avenue in response to a 911 call regarding a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers found a female lying in the roadway with severe injuries and began to render first aid until Killeen Fire Department Paramedics arrived. The 66-year-old female was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian was walking westbound on 38th Street in a crosswalk when a gray Ford pick-up truck traveling eastbound on Atkinson Avenue turned northbound onto N. 38th Street, striking the pedestrian before completing the turn.
The pedestrian succumbed to her injuries, and hospital staff pronounced her deceased at 9:26 a.m. The name of the victim has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Investigators with the Traffic Unit continue to investigate this fatality.
