Collision Involving Minivan and City of Garland Dump Truck Leaves One Dead

On August 10, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Garland Police and Paramedics responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Firewheel Parkway.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a minivan and a City of Garland dump truck had collided in the intersection. The minivan was occupied by two females. One of them was transported to the hospital, while the other was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the City of Garland dump truck was not injured. The investigation is ongoing, and the identities of those involved have not been released.

UPDATE: The deceased victim, who was a passenger in the vehicle, has been identified as Bessie Bell (age 99), a resident of Murphy, Texas.

Traffic collision investigators utilized witness statements and video from a nearby convenience store to determine that the minivan was traveling westbound on Pleasant Valley Road, while the city of Garland vehicle, a dump truck, was traveling eastbound. The minivan failed to yield right of way as it turned left onto Firewheel Parkway, in front of the oncoming City vehicle, and was struck on the passenger side.

The driver of the minivan remains hospitalized at this time.

The investigation is still active.
