On Sunday, August 18, 2024, at approximately 1:45 AM, Dallas police responded to an accident at Prosperity Avenue and Stanley Smith Drive in the Cedar Crest neighborhood. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, a 47-year-old man, and a second unidentified man were walking westbound on the 2800 block of Prosperity Avenue when they were struck by a vehicle.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old Rodolfo Jamaica, was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. Jamaica was reportedly attempting to pass another vehicle when he hit the 47-year-old man. Jamaica did not stop to provide aid and continued driving.
Dallas Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Further investigation revealed that Jamaica had collided with a house and a car in the 2400 block of Kathleen Avenue before coming to a stop. Jamaica was taken into custody and has been charged with Intoxication Manslaughter. His bond has been set at $100,000.
