Dallas College has highlighted a student's journey in their #EveryStudentIsAStory series. The student shared their personal experience, stating:
"My whole life I struggled with depression and anxiety. I couldn’t look a person in the face or even order my own food. It was so intense that at 14 I dropped out of high school. I struggled a lot with this, and for a long time I thought I had no future in sight and wanted to give up on life itself at 18 years old, which I almost did. But I decided to keep going, and at 20 I applied to Dallas College to try something new. It was going to be out of my comfort zone, but I learned comfort is the enemy of growth. I started taking everyone’s favorite subject, which is math. There I discovered I’m pretty good at it and eventually made it my major. Ever since then, I’ve been motivated to build my resume and experience up, going from a high school dropout with no future in sight to a math major with a high GPA and involvement with the STEM Institute. Earlier this year I went to the Ames Research Center in California for the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars program. I'm currently a part of the NASA L'SPACE program where I’m a project manager. It's a remote academy to learn about the space industry. All of this has led me to transferring to UT Austin, my dream school! Dallas College not only gave me a second chance at an education and career, but it gave me a second chance at life. I want to inspire people with my story and to never doubt yourself. My dream job is to be a mathematician at NASA, so I can help with science exploration and study unknown phenomena."
