On Wednesday night, August 21st, into Thursday morning, Bridgeport Police officers responded to a welfare concern call that quickly revealed a case of domestic violence. The suspect fled on foot, prompting the officers to request the assistance of a K9 team and drones. The suspect, who had self-inflicted injuries, was already wanted in another Texas County on a felony warrant for Injury to a Child/Elderly/Disabled with Bodily Injury.
During his escape, the suspect brandished a knife and demanded food and water from a nearby resident. The resident refused and waved him away, leading the suspect to continue fleeing.
K9 Reign, with his handler, and two drone teams—one from the Fire Marshal and one from the Wise County Sheriff's Office (WCSO)—began the search. In the late night darkness, one of the drones located the suspect's girlfriend walking with tennis shoes and water. She was in contact with the suspect via cellphone and delivered the items to him, where he was hiding behind a residential air conditioning unit.
K9 Reign was activated and quickly led officers to the suspect, who was taken into custody within minutes. The suspect was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Public Intoxication, and the existing felony warrant.
