The Arlington Police Department is investigating a serious multi-vehicle accident that resulted in the death of a truck driver late Friday night on U.S. 287. The accident occurred in the northbound lanes of U.S. 287, near Sublett Road, and involved five vehicles: three 18-wheelers, a 2016 Land Rover, and a 2015 Toyota Rav 4.
Officers responded to the scene around 10:21 p.m. on August 23, 2024. According to preliminary investigations, traffic in the northbound lanes had slowed or stopped due to ongoing road construction. One of the 18-wheelers failed to reduce speed upon approaching the area, leading to a rear-end collision with another 18-wheeler. This collision set off a chain reaction: the second 18-wheeler struck the Land Rover, which then hit the Rav 4 before colliding with the third 18-wheeler.
The driver of the first 18-wheeler involved in the collision, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was found without identification, and authorities are working to confirm his identity.
The drivers of the other two 18-wheelers, along with the driver and a passenger from the Land Rover, were transported to local hospitals with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The driver of the Rav 4 received treatment at the scene and was released shortly afterward.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is involved in the ongoing investigation and will work to identify the deceased driver once proper identification is made and next of kin have been notified.
