Lake Dallas Animal Shelter to Close Permanently September 30, New Animal Services Begin with All American Dogs

Starting October 1, 2024, major changes will come to Lake Dallas' animal services as the City Council has approved the permanent closure of the Lake Dallas Animal Shelter. The shelter will close on September 30, and the city has contracted with All American Dogs, located at 12860 Tischler Rd, Pilot Point, Texas, to provide animal services moving forward.

Affected staff members—two full-time employees and one part-time employee—will receive four weeks' salary and health insurance through October 2024. Their last working day will be September 30, and they have been invited to apply for jobs at All American Dogs.

"We are in an increasingly tight environment for municipal budgets in Texas," said City Manager Luke B. Olson. "Closing the animal shelter will save taxpayers $200,000 over the next year, allowing us to reinvest in essential city services and road projects."

All American Dogs currently provides services to 29 municipalities, handling animals of all types. If a found animal belongs to a Lake Dallas resident, the company will return it directly to the owner. Late-night rescues will be handled by Lake Dallas Police, who will care for the animals until pickup by All American Dogs.

Lake Dallas animal shelter adoptions are free until September 30. Those interested in adopting from All American Dogs can visit their Facebook page for more information.
