On Thursday, November 7, 2024, the Temple Police Department launched an investigation following a fatal shooting in a park located near the 400 block of W Avenue A. Around 8:00 a.m., an officer was approached by an individual who reported an incident had just occurred in the park, providing a description of a possible suspect and a vehicle that had fled the scene.
The officer promptly relayed this information over the radio. A nearby Constable located the vehicle and detained the driver, who matched the description provided by the witness.
Meanwhile, the initial officer arrived at the scene and immediately began performing life-saving measures on the victim. EMS and Temple Fire & Rescue quickly joined in providing medical assistance. However, the victim ultimately succumbed to their injuries, with Justice of the Peace Wilkey pronouncing the time of death at 8:24 a.m.
The Temple Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit is actively investigating the case. Authorities have confirmed that the suspect is in custody and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
