A delivery driver discovered a fire at Irving Fire Station 9, located at 8101 Jetstar Dr, on Saturday morning while its crew was out responding to an emergency call, according to the Irving Fire Department. The driver spotted smoke and flames coming from the front of the station at around 9:45 a.m. and reported the incident.
Responding firefighters contained the fire to the kitchen and living room areas, extinguishing the flames. However, heavy smoke damage affected other areas of the station, including the bathroom and sleeping quarters. No injuries were reported, and fire equipment in the apparatus bay remained unharmed.
Irving Fire Department’s arson investigators are examining the fire’s cause and origin, with preliminary findings indicating it started in the kitchen. Fire Station 9 personnel will operate from a nearby station until repairs are completed.
