Arlington Sees 5% Drop in Crime for 2024, Second Consecutive Year of Decline

Arlington recorded a 5% decrease in overall crime from 2023 to 2024, according to year-end data released by the Arlington Police Department (APD). This marks the second consecutive year of crime reduction in the city, with an overall 9% decline since 2022.

The APD reports annual crime data to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), which categorizes offenses into three groups: Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property, and Crimes Against Society. In 2024, Arlington saw a 1% reduction in Crimes Against Persons, driven by fewer Assault and Sex Offenses. Crimes Against Property dropped by 6%, while Crimes Against Society declined by 5%.

Homicides increased slightly from 15 in 2023 to 17 in 2024. Despite this, the city has experienced an 11% decrease in Crimes Against Persons over the past two years.

“Over the last three years, we’ve implemented multiple initiatives, strategies, and new technologies to help us more proactively combat crime,” said Chief of Police Al Jones. “When I see these statistics, it tells me that we’re on the right path. We still have work to do. But positive momentum is building.”
