Dallas Begins Search for Next Fire-Rescue Chief

On February 14, 2025, Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert announced the initiation of a local and regional search for the next Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) Chief. This search is running in parallel with the search for a new Dallas Police Chief.

City Manager Tolbert emphasized the importance of selecting a leader who will continue building on the foundation of DFR and drive the department into a new era of excellence and innovation. “The ideal candidate will be passionate about delivering Service First, Now! results, have a proven track record of building strong teams, fostering community engagement, and driving operational efficiency,” said Tolbert.

Tolbert also expressed confidence that both the DFR and Dallas Police Chief positions will be filled by early Spring, aligning with the city’s public safety leadership under Chief Dominique Artis.

The City of Dallas has partnered with Public Sector Search & Consulting, Inc. (PSSC), a search firm specializing in public safety executive searches, to conduct both the DFR and police chief searches. PSSC has extensive experience, including conducting 15 major U.S. city searches and the previous Dallas Police Chief searches.

Interim DFR Chief Justin Ball, appointed in June 2024 after Chief Artis was promoted to Chief of Public Safety, will remain in his role until a permanent chief is selected.
