Dallas Man Sentenced to Maximum 20 Years for Stalking; Prior Conviction Revealed

Derrick Davis

Derrick Davis, 44, was found guilty of stalking and sentenced to the maximum 20 years in prison, along with a $10,000 fine, on February 7, 2025.

The trial, prosecuted by Leah Dintino and Kristen Jackson, revealed that Davis began stalking the victim in March 2021 after she ended their brief romantic relationship. Davis engaged in relentless stalking for 30 days, including returning to her home days after she shot him when he trespassed onto her property.

Detective Whaley of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office used surveillance footage, text messages, 911 calls, and Facebook messages to build the case against Davis.

During the punishment phase, it was revealed that Davis had a prior stalking conviction from 2003 involving a different woman. His ex-wife also testified about being stalked by Davis in 2019.

The jury, moved by the victims' testimonies, imposed the maximum sentence, aiming to send a message that Davis was a predator and that his victims were brave to come forward.
