Pappas Restaurants announced today that it has been selected as the prevailing bidder in the auction for Irving-based On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina. The acquisition, which is subject to court approval, is anticipated to be finalized in the coming weeks.
This move will unite two prominent Texas-based restaurant brands, expanding Pappas Restaurants' footprint in the Tex-Mex dining category. On The Border, known for its bold flavors and accessible price point, will complement Pappasito's Cantina, which is recognized for its fresh ingredients, sizzling fajitas, hand-shaken margaritas, and vibrant atmosphere. Together, the combined brands aim to cater to a broader range of customers across a wider array of markets.
"We're excited to welcome On The Border to the Pappas family," stated Mike Rizzo, CEO of Pappas Restaurants. "On The Border is a brand with deep heritage and loyal guests, and we see tremendous opportunity to invest in its future. Our shared Texas roots and passion for hospitality make this a natural fit."
Leveraging their extensive experience in operating successful restaurant brands, Pappas Restaurants intends to apply its established operational model and dedication to quality and hospitality to strengthen and modernize On The Border locations. The company emphasized that the guest experience at On The Border will maintain the lively and welcoming environments that both brands are known for.
Chris Pappas, co-owner of Pappas Restaurants, commented, "On The Border has always stood out for its energy and bold flavors—it's a brand we've known and respected for years. This gives us the chance to bring our passion for Tex-Mex to more guests, and we're excited to build on what makes both brands special."
Pappas Restaurants plans to explore opportunities to enhance On The Border's menu, operations, and overall guest experience while respecting the brand's history and popular offerings. The transition will be guided by a commitment to quality, hospitality, and the celebration of Tex-Mex cuisine.
