IRVING, Texas – On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Irving Police officers located a stolen vehicle within city limits and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver, identified as 41-year-old John Benjamin Cartwright, provided a stolen identification. A search of the vehicle revealed illegal drugs. Cartwright was taken into custody and booked into the Irving Jail at 3:54 p.m.
He faces charges including Fraud for Stolen Identity, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1/1-B over 4 grams, and Fail to Identify as a Fugitive. Cartwright had six outstanding warrants, including charges for mail theft, multiple thefts totaling between $30,000 and $150,000, fraud, tampering with a government record, and a parole violation. He was previously sentenced to five years in prison in May 2022 and had recently been paroled.
