Tarrant County DA Highlights Domestic Violence Efforts During Awareness Month

TARRANT COUNTY, Texas – In 2024, domestic violence cases were the second most common type of case filed in the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, highlighting the ongoing challenge of holding offenders accountable amid complex relationship dynamics.

To address these challenges, the DA’s Office works closely with law enforcement and community partners to ensure victims receive support and offenders are prosecuted. This October, in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the office is launching its “Not on My Watch” campaign to honor victims and raise awareness.

“Domestic or family violence will not be tolerated here – not on my watch,” said District Attorney Phil Sorrells.

As part of the campaign, the office will present its 2024 Fatality Review findings to the Commissioners Court on Tuesday, October 14, in collaboration with SafeHaven of Tarrant County. The report details statistics on residents who lost their lives to intimate partner violence last year.

Sorrells emphasized that domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of race, gender, socio-economic status, or sexual orientation. “We seek justice for all victims in Tarrant County. No one is alone in this fight,” he said.

Residents are encouraged to report suspected incidents of intimate partner violence to local law enforcement. Victims can access help through SafeHaven’s 24-hour hotline at 1-877-701-7233.
