Officers responded around 6:48 a.m. on October 14 to the 10700 block of South Fort Hood Street after reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck. Investigators determined that a red 2004 Ford pickup was traveling southbound after turning from Splawn Ranch Road when it was struck from behind by a black 2007 Honda motorcycle traveling at a very high speed.

Witnesses told police the motorcyclist appeared to be racing another motorcycle before the crash. The impact threw the rider onto the shoulder of the roadway, where he was pronounced dead at 7:41 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Nicola James.

A second motorcycle, a red 2024 Kawasaki, was also heading southbound and struck debris from the initial collision, causing a secondary crash. That rider sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Killeen Fire Department paramedics.

The Killeen Police Department’s Traffic Unit is leading the ongoing investigation.
