Dallas DA Partners with Police and AT&T to Combat Copper Theft and Protect Critical Infrastructure

John Creuzot, Dallas County DA

DALLAS, TX – Copper theft and vandalism of communications infrastructure continue to disrupt essential services and pose serious risks to public safety across Texas. To raise awareness and prevent these crimes, Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot has partnered with the Dallas Police Department and AT&T to launch a new public service announcement (PSA).

The PSA highlights the consequences of copper theft, including service disruptions, impeded emergency response, and the broader dangers to communities. It also encourages residents to report suspicious activity and support ongoing investigations.

“Protecting critical infrastructure requires teamwork,” said DA Creuzot. “We are grateful for our partners who share a commitment to keeping our communities safe.”

The initiative comes alongside new legislation, Senate Bill 1646, which increases penalties for theft or destruction of copper and brass from critical infrastructure. The law targets organized criminal activity, protects law-abiding businesses, and helps prevent service disruptions that could endanger the public.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office emphasizes that safeguarding critical infrastructure is a shared responsibility. Residents are encouraged to watch the PSA and remain vigilant against thefts that threaten the safety and well-being of the community.
