FORT WORTH - Fort Worth firefighters have already responded to 19 working fires this month, underscoring an exceptionally busy stretch for crews across the city.

As of 2 p.m. today, the Fort Worth Fire Department has handled 15 residential fires, two outbuilding fires, one apartment fire, and one commercial fire. The department is just 15 days into December.

Saturday provided a snapshot of the pace firefighters have been facing.

The day began around 4:30 a.m. when Truck 17 was struck on Interstate 20 near Hemphill while crews were working a motor vehicle accident. No firefighters were injured. The department again urged drivers to slow down and move over when approaching emergency responders working on roadways.

Later that morning, around 8:30 a.m., the FWFD Alarm Office received reports of a fire in the 2100 block of Grace Avenue on the city’s north side. First-arriving crews encountered heavy smoke coming from a two-car garage behind the home. Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames and prevented the fire from spreading. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.

That afternoon, crews were dispatched to an outbuilding fire near Lackland and Curzon on the west side of Fort Worth. The fire had begun spreading from a backyard structure into nearby brush and fencing. Fire companies arrived in less than three minutes and stopped the fire before it could spread further. No injuries were reported, and the cause is under investigation.

Fire officials say the volume and pace of calls continue to test crews citywide, while emphasizing the importance of public cooperation when firefighters are working on roadways and in neighborhoods.
