Dallas police are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man in southeast Dallas, as family, friends, and members of the boxing community mourn his loss.
On Sunday, December 21, 2025, at about 4:15 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 100 block of South Murdeaux Lane. When officers arrived, they found Matthew Moore suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported Moore to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The case remains under investigation and is being documented under Dallas Police case number 182067-2025.
The day after the shooting, Moore’s family and friends gathered at Chapa’s Boxing Gym in Rockwall to honor his memory. Moore was well known at the gym, where he trained and worked closely with coach Pete Chapa for several years.
“Matt as an athlete, he’s just a coach’s dream,” Chapa said. “He worked hard and he inspired everyone he was around.”
Chapa also spoke about Moore’s devotion to his young daughter, saying she was often by his side at the gym. “Every other time he was in this gym, he brought his daughter with him. She was five years old. She was here with him. She was trailing him all the time,” he said.
Moore’s father, Matthew Moore Sr., stated that his son was unarmed at the time he was shot.
