CEDAR HILL, TX - Two people are dead following a violent confrontation Friday night that began as a reported road disturbance and ended in an officer-involved shooting along U.S. Highway 67, according to Cedar Hill police.
Officers were called around 8 p.m. to the 1400 block of North Highway 67 after a driver reported a major disturbance involving two vehicles. The caller told dispatchers someone had fired shots at his vehicle and provided a description of the suspect car.
When officers arrived, they located the suspect vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the highway and initiated a high-risk traffic stop. During the encounter, a woman exited the passenger side of the vehicle. Police say she was immediately shot by the driver.
The male driver then exited the vehicle holding a firearm. Two Cedar Hill officers fired their weapons, striking the man.
Officers on scene rendered emergency aid to both individuals until paramedics arrived. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The identities of the deceased have not been released.
The Texas Rangers have assumed control of the investigation, which is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings. In accordance with department policy, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Authorities have not released additional details about what led up to the initial disturbance or the relationship between the two individuals. The investigation remains ongoing.
