DECATUR, Texas — A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after police say he fatally stabbed his mother during a domestic disturbance late Wednesday night.
According to the Decatur Police Department, officers responded around 11 p.m. on February 11, 2026, to a disturbance call in the 1500 block of Cliff Street involving an altercation between Michael Shane Socia, 32, and his mother, Diana Tynes Ketchum, 49, at her home.
When officers arrived, they found Ketchum suffering from stab wounds. She was transported by Wise County EMS to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
Police said Socia fled the residence and ran into a nearby field following the stabbing. Officers located him shortly afterward, and he attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody after a brief pursuit.
Socia was transported to Medical City Decatur for treatment of minor injuries before being booked into the Wise County Jail on a charge of Murder. His bond was set at $100,000.
According to social media posts circulating online, Ketchum had previously warned members of a local mothers’ group that her son was struggling with severe mental health issues and was suicidal. She was seeking help for her son. Authorities have not confirmed whether those posts are connected to the investigation.
The case remains under investigation.
