Tyrie Johnson

IRVING, Texas - A 32-year-old man was arrested after Irving police said he threatened another person with a handgun during a disturbance in South Irving.

According to the Irving Police Department, officers responded May 19 to the 900 block of Oakland Drive following reports of a disturbance.

Investigators said the victim told officers that during a verbal altercation, 32-year-old Tyrie Johnson displayed a black handgun and threatened to kill the victim while demanding money.

Police said the victim reported Johnson stated, “give me my money, or I’m gonna kill you,” causing the victim to fear imminent serious bodily injury and for his life.

According to investigators, the victim told officers Johnson placed the handgun inside the front passenger area of his vehicle before police arrived.

Authorities said Johnson did not live at the residence, and officers conducted a search of the vehicle under the automobile exception rule. During the search, officers located the firearm in plain view in the front passenger compartment.

Police said Johnson had a prior Dallas County conviction from March 2016 for assault involving impeding the breath of a household member and previously served two years in prison.

Johnson was arrested and booked into the Irving Jail.

He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon by a felon with a conviction.
