IRVING, Texas - A woman attending an event in downtown Irving was arrested Sunday night after police say she assaulted multiple officers during an intoxication-related arrest.
According to the Irving Police Department, officers responded around 10:11 p.m. May 24 to a disturbance at a Mainstage event located at 222 East Irving Boulevard.
Police said Officer Cesar Colunga made contact with 24-year-old Davia Wright and observed signs of intoxication.
For her safety, officers attempted to determine how Wright planned to get home safely, but she refused to cooperate. Authorities also stated there was no one nearby able to assist or care for her.
Due to concerns for her safety and the safety of others, officers arrested Wright for public intoxication, according to police.
During the arrest, Wright resisted violently, kicking one officer in the face and another officer in the shin, causing visible injuries to both officers.
Police said Wright was eventually secured inside a patrol vehicle, but later slipped out of her handcuffs and began punching a third officer as well as the officer she had previously kicked in the face.
Authorities said both officers suffered visible injuries during the altercation.
Officers then forcefully restrained Wright and reapplied handcuffs. Irving Fire Department personnel responded to evaluate her, which allowed for her to calm down.
Wright was later transported to the Irving Jail without further incident.
She is charged with three counts of assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and public intoxication.
