IRVING, Texas - Irving police arrested a registered sex offender early Thursday morning after locating him at a residence in South Irving.
According to the Irving Police Department, officers executed an arrest warrant on 37-year-old Fernando Zapata after receiving information that he was staying at a home in the 1700 block of Glenwick Lane.
Court records show Zapata was convicted in March 2009 of aggravated sexual assault of a child involving a 13-year-old girl when he was aged 20. He was sentenced to community supervision and required to register as a sex offender for life, including annual residence verification requirements.
Records show that Zapata's last residence verification with Irving authorities occurred in October 2020.
In February 2022, Zapata was arrested and charged with failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements. Following a plea agreement, he was sentenced to three years of community supervision.
Authorities said that after another arrest by Irving police in May 2025 for violating probation conditions, his probation was extended by two years and is currently scheduled to continue through May 2027.
Zapata was also serving probation related to an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon case. Records indicate he spent 260 days in jail during 2025 after probation in that case was revoked.
Investigators allege Zapata again failed to comply with sex offender registration and verification requirements, resulting in the latest warrant and arrest.
He is expected to face probation violation proceedings, with a court hearing scheduled in the case.
