According to the Killeen Police Department, officers responded on March 12, 2026, at approximately 9:12 a.m. to the 1700 block of North Gray Street after receiving a 911 call reporting a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

When officers arrived, they found 37-year-old Christopher Gillespey unconscious outside a residence. EMS personnel responded and determined he showed no signs of life.

Gregory Johnson pronounced Gillespey dead at 9:25 a.m. and ordered an autopsy through the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Investigators determined Gillespey was inside his residence when he was shot and managed to exit the home before collapsing outside.

The case was assigned to the department's Criminal Investigation Division and Robbery-Homicide Unit. Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the area and followed up on information provided by members of the public.

After completing their investigation, detectives presented the case to the Bell County District Attorney's Office.

On May 6, Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson issued a murder warrant for 47-year-old Charlie Leon Waldon.

Authorities said Waldon was located on May 14 in Pittsburg County (near McAlester, OK) and arrested by the Pittsburg County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said Waldon was taken into custody at the county jail while attempting to post bond for his girlfriend.

He remains in custody awaiting extradition to Bell County to face the murder charge.

The Killeen Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Unit continues to investigate the case.
