FORT WORTH, Texas — Two people were rescued from a burning home early Sunday morning after firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in southeast Fort Worth, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.
Just after 1:30 a.m. on June 7, a caller contacted the department's alarm office to report a fire at a house in the 1200 block of East Davis Avenue and said people were still inside the residence.
When crews arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the rear of the home. While some firefighters deployed hoses to attack the flames, others entered the residence to search for occupants.
Firefighters located two people inside the home, brought them outside and provided medical attention. Information on the extent of their injuries was not released.
Crews worked in heavy rain to bring the fire under control.
Four adults were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross Greater North Texas was notified to assist those affected.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The incident also provided real-world experience for members of Fort Worth Fire Department Recruit Class 100, who were participating in ride-outs ahead of their scheduled graduation on June 12. The ride-outs allow recruits to gain field experience responding to emergency incidents alongside active firefighters.
Following graduation, recruits will continue their training through an apprenticeship program lasting approximately 100 shifts, or about one year. During that time, they wear yellow helmets, which identify them as probationary firefighters while they continue learning and gaining experience in the field.
