TAMPA, Fla. - Two U.S. service members have been identified after they were killed while defending a military installation in Jordan during an Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack, including a 19-year-old soldier from North Texas.
According to U.S. Central Command, the attack occurred on July 17 as U.S. and partner forces defended Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan from incoming Iranian missiles and drones. The troops were supporting the U.S.-led mission against the Islamic State.
The Department of Defense identified the fallen service members as 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas.
Military officials said Gonzales died on July 17, while Feehan died the following day from injuries sustained in the attack. Officials have not released additional details about the circumstances of their deaths.
Feehan was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air Missile Defense Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Gonzales was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air Missile Defense Command based in Ansbach, Germany. She was a 2025 graduate of Hebron High School in Carrollton.
CENTCOM also said one additional U.S. service member remains missing in action following the attack.
Four American service members who were injured were medically evacuated to hospitals in Jordan. Military officials said all four have since been discharged, while other personnel treated for minor injuries have returned to duty.
The U.S. military also reported that unidentified human remains were recovered at the attack site. Officials have not yet determined whether the remains belong to the missing service member or another individual.
According to the Department of Defense, the attack raises the total number of U.S. military personnel killed during the conflict with Iran to 17.
The investigation into the attack and the search for the missing service member remain ongoing.
