IRVING, Texas - An Irving woman who is also a repeat offender, is facing a felony domestic violence charge after police say she assaulted and strangled her sister-in-law during an altercation at a North Irving apartment complex.
According to the Irving Police Department, officers responded on July 17 to The Stella Apartments in the 4100 block of Pleasant Run Road (across from Sam Houston Middle School) after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance.
When officers arrived, they spoke with 22-year-old Danna Paola Lira and the victim, Esmeralda Gonzalez. Police said the two women are sisters-in-law and live in the same apartment.
Investigators determined the women became involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.
According to police, Lira struck Gonzalez several times with her hands, causing scrapes and scratches to the victim's elbows, knees, neck and face.
Officers said Lira then placed both hands around Gonzalez's neck and applied pressure, causing the victim pain and making it difficult for her to breathe.
Lira was arrested at the scene and booked into the Irving Jail.
She has been charged with Assault Family Violence Impeding Breath or Circulation, a felony under Texas law.
Her bond was set at $40,000. However, as of July 24, Lira remained in custody at the Dallas County Jail.
According to court records, Lira was previously arrested in January 2026 after assaulting another family member while intoxicated. At the time of that arrest, she was on parole for a prior drug dealing conviction and was additionally charged with a parole violation. That case remains pending.
