IRVING, Texas - An Irving man required to register as a sex offender through 2043 has been arrested after police say he failed to comply with Texas registration requirements following a move to the city.
According to Irving Police Department records, Robert Edward West, 57, was booked into the Irving Jail at approximately 10 a.m. on Aug. 5 on a charge of Failure to Comply with Sex Offender's Duty to Register (10-Year Requirement).
His bond was set at $60,000. He was later transferred to the Dallas County Jail, where he remains in custody.
Required to Register Until 2043
Court records show West is required to register annually as a sex offender until November 2043 because of a Dallas County conviction for Attempt to Commit Indecency with a Child by Contact involving a 12-year-old girl.
Investigators allege West violated Article 62.102 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure by failing to report to the Irving Police Department to complete and verify his sex offender registration after moving into the city.
Original Case Began With Irving Police Investigation
The registration requirement stems from a case that began after Irving police arrested West in March 2021 on a charge of Sexual Assault of a Child.
On Nov. 6, 2025, West accepted a plea agreement with the Dallas County Criminal District Attorney's Office. Under the agreement, he received eight years of deferred adjudication probation and was ordered to register as a sex offender.
Moved Several Times Before Arrest
Records show West initially registered with the Melissa Police Department on Nov. 20, 2025.
After later moving to Tyler, he completed a verification with the Smith County Sheriff's Office on April 8, 2026.
Authorities say West subsequently moved to Irving but failed to register with the Irving Police Department as required by state law.
Police also noted that West had been released from the Dallas County Jail on July 19, 2026, on unrelated charges before the registration violation was discovered.
He now faces the new felony charge related to failing to comply with Texas sex offender registration requirements.
