Speeding SUV Strikes Pedestrian, Crashes Into Five Vehicles at Plano Intersection

PLANO, Texas - Three people were hospitalized Saturday afternoon after a speeding SUV crossed a median, struck a pedestrian and crashed into a line of vehicles stopped at a Plano intersection, according to police.

The crash happened around 3:15 p.m. Sept. 5 at East Parker Road and Avenue K.

A preliminary investigation indicates a silver Ford Explorer was traveling east on East Parker Road, west of Avenue K, at a high rate of speed when it crossed the center median and entered the westbound lanes.

Police said the Explorer struck a pedestrian who was standing on the center median. The impact threw the pedestrian into the side of another vehicle traveling east.

The Explorer continued east in the westbound lanes, crossed Avenue K and slammed into five vehicles stopped at a red light, according to police.

Seven vehicles, including the Explorer, were damaged during the crash.

Plano Fire-Rescue transported the Explorer's driver, the pedestrian and another motorist to an area hospital. Police said their conditions were not known.

No other injuries were reported.

Police have not identified the injured people or said what caused the Explorer's driver to lose control.

The Plano Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
