High-Speed Chase on I-20 Near Weatherford Ends in Crash, Serious Injuries

A driver fleeing from a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper suffered serious injuries after crashing on Interstate 20 near Weatherford on September 7, 2026. Authorities say the trooper first spotted a white GMC Terrain speeding more than 100 mph westbound on I-20 in the Weatherford area, also committing multiple other traffic violations. When the trooper tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused to stop and kept heading west on I-20. Near the interchange with U.S. 180, the GMC clipped another car, causing damage but no injuries, before continuing to flee. The chase continued to the area near Ric Williamson Memorial Highway, where the driver left the interstate and then tried to get back on by cutting through the roadside ditch. The GMC ultimately hit a culvert and stopped in the westbound lanes of I-20, temporarily blocking traffic. The driver, the only person in the vehicle, was flown by CareFlite to a hospital in Fort Worth with serious injuries. DPS says the case remains under investigation.
